About the project

  META BUILD is the acronym for “Powering the METAmorphosis of BUILDings towards a decarbonized and sustainable energy system” and it is a project funded by Horizon Europe under the call HORIZON-CL5-2023-D4-01 (Innovative cost-efficient solutions for zero-emission buildings). At its core, META BUILD aspires to take a holistic approach to confront the challenges associated with decarbonizing buildings.

  The project aims to navigate the entire life cycle of buildings, showcasing the efficacy, adaptability, and scalability of cutting-edge energy solutions. This includes the integration of Heat Pumps with photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) systems and second-life batteries, by using digital twin models and intelligent algorithms to optimize the efficiency and performance of the proposed solutions.

Over the next four years, the consortium will collaborate intensively, working towards the design, testing, and validation of these pioneering energy solutions. The ultimate aim is to eliminate fossil fuel boilers in six diverse buildings, our Front Runners, across Europe (Austria, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy and Spain) showcasing the viability and effectiveness of the proposed alternatives.

Once successfully validated, these proven solutions will be replicated in seven additional pilots’ project (Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Poland and Spain). This strategic approach ensures not only the future replicability of the solutions but also accelerates their adoption in the broader market. META BUILD, through this comprehensive endeavor, is expecting to play a pivotal role in shaping the future landscape of sustainable and energy-efficient building practices across Europe.

About the consortium

 Comprising 39 partners from 13 European countries, our diverse consortium has expertise in renewable technologies, ranging from product manufacturing to the design of Heat Pumps, photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) systems, and second life batteries.

Project calendar

 The project will run for 3 years, from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2027.
